The Importance of Poetry During Pre-Islamic Period

Poetry got great importance during the pre-Islamic period and the poet was regarded the most popular person; he even got more importance than the heads of the tribes and king of an area because whenever the verses of a poet were sung, his name was also remembered.

If a person was accepted as a poet or he achieved a title in poetry recitation in a fair, then his tribe used to organize a grand festival in honor of that poet in which all the great personalities of the Arab continents were called. This was organized to tell all the people that we have a poet among us.

The poet was given so much importance because the name of his tribe became popular like the verses of the poet. Likewise, the poet was the person who used to motivate the people to participate in the battles and if the tribe was in any kind of problem, it was the poet who motivated the people to bring out the people from the problems.

There are many examples in the history of Arabic literature that because of the poet, the tribe became very popular when they were very small and having little' resources t is also recorded in the history that due to the motivation of the poet this tribe came out from a very, great problem Likewise, because of the poet, the people of his tribe were honored and rewarded in a very far away area.

Due to the importance of poetry and the poct, many fairs were organized throughout
Arabia in which poets from every corner of Arubia used to participate and the winners
were handsomely rewarded and their verses were written with gold water and hung oir
the walls of the Kaa'ba as a symbol of respect and honor.

This was the importance of poetry during pre-Islamic period.
